Laura Pennock, owner of the Black Rock Pilates Studio, is a Master Teacher Trainer with Balanced Body, the recognized leader in Mind-Body Education. Balanced Body has a global network of instructors and training centers in over 50 countries, and ours is their only authorized training center in Connecticut.
The Balanced Body Pilates Instructor Training Program is designed to create thoughtful, creative and successful Pilates teachers. Courses are taught in modular segments allowing students to progress at their own pace.
A Balanced Body Pilates education respectfully and comprehensively presents the work of Joseph Pilates. This signature approach teaches the repertoire, movement principles, class design and client specific applications of each exercise, providing a strong foundation and giving you a deep understanding of how the body works and how to make it work better. Courses are stimulating, personalized and deeply rooted in the art and science of movement.

BALANCED BODY MOVEMENT PRINCIPLES (16hrs) in person or online
Sept 14 - 15 2024, 9:15am - 6:00pm
This is where it all begins! Learn how to recognize, improve and teach fundamental movement patterns with Movement Principles, the foundation of the Balanced Body instructor training system. This course is designed for both new and experienced instructors to refine their understanding of the body in motion. Movement Principles is the prerequisite for the Balanced Body Pilates program and the heart of the Balanced Body Movement Specialist Certification. You may also take this class for your personal benefit to enhance your understanding of and experience with your Pilates practice.
MAT 1 (16hrs) in person or online
Oct 12 - Oct 13 2024, 9:15am - 6:00pm
Mat 1 forms the foundation of the Pilates method. This course includes an introduction to the history and principles of the Pilates method and covers the beginning and intermediate level exercises. Not required for Reformer trainings, but highly recommended.
Prerequisite: Movement Principles
REFORMER 1 (16hrs) in person or online
Nov 2 - Nov 3 2024, 9:15am - 6:00pm
Reformer 1 introduces you to the biomechanical foundation of the Pilates method and to the essential components of functional core strength, lumbopelvic and scapular stability, as well as assessing and correcting alignment and improving flexibility. Pre-Pilates exercises are included for teaching these key principles to your clients and classes. Reformer 1 includes an introduction to the Pilates Reformer, including set-up and safety, beginner exercises, program sequencing, and teaching tips for group classes. By the end of the course you will be able to teach a beginning Reformer class or personal training session.
Prerequisite: Movement Principles, 20 Reformer classes completed
REFORMER 2 (16hrs) in person or online
Dec 7 - 8 2024, 9:15am - 6:00pm
Reformer 2 expands the potential of the Reformer with intermediate and advanced exercises and modifications, along with programs designed for special populations including pre- and post-natal clients and clients with osteoporosis and lower back injuries. Class design, dynamic assessment and correcting common dysfunctional movement patterns are also included.
Prerequisite: Reformer I
