Laura Pennock, owner of the Black Rock Pilates Studio, is a Master Teacher Trainer with Balanced Body, the recognized leader in Mind-Body Education. Balanced Body has a global network of instructors and training centers in over 50 countries, and ours is their only authorized training center in Connecticut.
The Balanced Body Pilates Instructor Training Program is designed to create thoughtful, creative and successful Pilates teachers. Courses are taught in modular segments allowing students to progress at their own pace.
A Balanced Body Pilates education respectfully and comprehensively presents the work of Joseph Pilates. This signature approach teaches the repertoire, movement principles, class design and client specific applications of each exercise, providing a strong foundation and giving you a deep understanding of how the body works and how to make it work better. Courses are stimulating, personalized and deeply rooted in the art and science of movement.

Learn the structure and function of bones, joints, muscles, tendons, and ligaments, and the origin, insertion, and action of the major muscles of movement, by building them yourself on our skeleton. This course covers the torso, hip, thigh, shoulders, upper arms, and spine. Includes full color manual with video support. Offered in-person and virtual.

Learn how to recognize, improve and teach fundamental movement patterns with the Movement Principles course, the foundation of the Balanced Body instructor training system. This course is designed for both new and experienced instructors to refine their understanding of the body in motion. Movement Principles is the pre-requisite for the entire Balanced Body Pilates training program and the heart of the Balanced Body Movement Specialist Certification. Take it to become a truly transformative instructor.

Prerequisites - Movement Principles and 10 Mat classes
Mat 1 forms the foundation of the Pilates method. This course includes an introduction to the history and principles of Pilates and the beginning and intermediate level exercises. Each exercise includes training on modifications, challenges, the purpose of the exercise and any precautions for injuries and special populations. How to design and teach group classes and guidelines for teaching seniors and pre and post–natal classes are included.

Prerequisites: Movement Principles and 20 Reformer classes
This course introduces the Universal Reformer, the center piece of the Pilates equipment studio and an invaluable training tool. Reformer 1 includes an introduction to safely using the Pilates Reformer for a wide variety of supine, seated and standing exercises for the beginning to intermediate student.
